Our guest today is Leigh-Ann Webster, the executive director of the National Board of Health and Wellness Coaches (NBHWC). Because of Leigh-Ann’s position at the NBHWC, it should come as no surprise that we talk about all things related to board certification in this episode. The NBHWC’s mission is to lead the advancement of health and wellness coaching by establishing professional standards and collaborative partnerships. The organization has established a job task analysis for the industry which was validated by more than 1,000 practicing health and wellness coaches. This job task analysis now serves as the framework for the national board certification examination and the training and education standards that programs adhere to when applying for NBHWC approval. The NBHWC is helping to establish credible educational and practice standards for the field of health coaching which can only help to elevate the profile of health coaches in the health care realm. In today’s episode, we discuss Leigh-Ann’s draw to an organization such as the NBHWC, insurance reimbursement and progress being made in this area, her vision for what the health and wellness coaching field will look like in the future, and much more.
